Qur'an Commentary

Preface

In this section of Rational Islam,
we will discuss some authentic commentaries of the Qur’an
such as Tafsir Ibn’e Kasir, Tafheem ul Qur’an, etc. Also, we will share some personal
commentaries to ponder upon amazing verses of the Holy Qur’an and
discuss the miracles hidden in them.
InshaAllah!

La Ilaha IlAllah

La Ilaha Il’Allah is the only statement that unites all the Monotheistic Religions under one faith. This sacred phrase is a part of the basic Muslim statement of faith, it is a part of the call to prayer that echoes across the countryside five times a day throughout the Muslim world. ‘There is no God but Allah’ لا إله إلا الله. This statement is the basis of Islamic Religion. If a person wants to be Muslim, he has to say this phrase confirming with his heart, adding ‘Muhammad SAW is the prophet of Allah’ محمد رسول الله. This statement has been mentioned many times in Qur’an (3:18 37:35 47:19) which makes it a direct revelation from Allah SWT. In many authentic hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAW, he mentioned this holy phrase to be read many times as wird, and also He SAW mentioned many benefits of it.
Translation: ‘There is no God but Allah’ لا إله إلا الله.

This statement is the basis of our Islamic Religion. The four individual words in the phrase lā ilāha illā allāh, have the following meanings:
lā = no, not, none, neither
ilāha = an object of worship, adoration or service, a god or deity
illā = but, except (illā is a contraction of in-lā, literally if not)
allāh = allāh
Miracle: As many of the Qur’anic verses and phrases has miracles in them, this holy phrase also has an amazing miracle that shocks everyone, and again confirms that the Qur’an is a word from Allah almighty.
La Ilaha Il’Allah, while reciting this phrase, if you notice we don’t have to move our lips and this phrase requires less effort in uttering as compared to any other statement or phrase in the world, and Subhan Allah, every Muslim wish to call this phrase while dying, as Muhammad SAW said ‘A dying person who can hardly speak may be assisted by someone to frequently say, “La Ilaha Il’Allah” there is no god but Allah (God)’. Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) reminds us, ‘He whose last words are: La Ilaha Il’Allah, enters Paradise.’ This method is called ‘Talqeen’.
Now if a person is dying of any swear disease, in which he can not move his body (such as Foliage), even such a person can easily recite this phrase.
SubhanAllah!

Alhamdulillah e' Rabbul Alameen

According to modern scientists, there is a new concept of the multiverse, and this concept tells us that all the observable things the seen and the unseen the discoveries made till date in space and all the theories that are still unreal, everything is in just one universe, but there are many more universes like ours, maybe millions and millions of them are out there, Allah knows best!
Now if we open Quran and read the 2nd verse of 1st surah (Surah al Fatiha), it says:
“All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds/multiverse”
Qur’an 1:2
The word universe/world in Arabic is “عالم ”, you can check that on

Google and here’s the link to it: World/Universe and in the above mentioned Arabic verse, Allah has used the plural version of universe – multiverse/worlds “اَلْعَالَمِينََ ”. This word cannot be translated to any other word except this worlds or multiverse, the word heavens are translated in Arabic as “السماوات ” as Allah mentioned this word “السماوات ” many times in Qur’an for English word skies or heavens. An early example of this can be seen in the work of the Islamic theologian Fakhr al-Din al-Razi (1149–1209), in dealing with his conception of physics and the physical world in his Matalib. He discusses Islamic cosmology, criticizes the idea of the Earth’s centrality within the universe, and explores “the notion of the existence of a multiverse in the context of his commentary” on the Qur’anic verse, “All praise belongs to God, Lord of the Worlds.” He raises the question of whether the term “worlds” in this verse refers to “multiple worlds within this single universe or cosmos, or too many other universes or a multiverse beyond this known universe.” He rejects the Aristotelian view of a single world or universe in favour of the existence of multiple worlds and universes, a view that he believed to be supported by the Qur’an and by the Ash’ari theory of atomism.
SubhanAllah!
In Islamic theology, the cosmos includes both the Unseen Universe (Arabic: عالم الغيب‎, Alam-al-Ghaib) and the Observable Universe (Arabic: عالم الشهود‎, Alam-al-Shahood). Nevertheless, both belong to the created universe. Islamic dualism does not constitute between spirit and matter, but between Creator (Allah SWT) and creation. The latter including both the seen and unseen. So this concept of the multiverse that is still a theory for modern scientist, it is mentioned in the Qur’an 1400 years ago.

Seal of Prophets

Qur’an has many Linguistic Miracle in many of its verses. The 40th ayah of Surah Al-Ahzab has an amazing linguistic miracle that focuses on the topic of the Seal of the Prophets. According to this statement, Muhammad SAW is the last prophet of all prophets sent down by Allah SWT. How this verse is miraculous, the answer lies inside it.
Explanation: All Messengers are Prophets, but all Prophets are not Messengers. A Messenger is a Prophet who receives a book of revelation from Allah which confirms the previous book of revelation and prophets but has some amendments in it. Musa (received Holy Torah), Isa (received Holy Bible), David (received
Holy Zabur) and Muhammad SAW (received Holy Quran) all four were Messengers and Prophets of Allah SWT and all four of them received books of revelation from Allah Torah, Gospel, Zober, and Qur’an. Prophet does receive revelation and has the attributes of a Messanger, but he does not set up new legislation for people rather he comes as a follower of a previous set of legislations. Qur’an mentions Ismail, Yousef, Yuns, Abraham, and all others as Prophets of Allah.
Miracle: Allah said in the Quran 33:40 “Muḥammad is not the father of any of your men but is the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets (خاتم النبيين). And Allah has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things.” Allah precisely and clearly mentioned خاتم النبيين word in this ayah. Now repeating the statement “All Messengers are Prophets of Allah SWT, but all Prophets are not Allah’s Messengers.
Analysis: If Allah had mentioned “seal of messengers” instead of “seal of prophets” in this ayah, there would be a space of statement to be said that Allah said the seal of messengers, and not prophets, which means that prophets can come after him (like ahmadiyya says). But Allah mentioned “the seal of prophets” which means prophets can not come after him and He is the last one. This clearly explains that it impossible for any prophet to come and if it is the seal of prophets then automatically it’s a seal for messengers as well.
SubhanAllah!

Angles and the Speed of Light

We Muslims believe in the existence of Angels, as Allah mentioned many time in the Qur’an Unseen World (Arabic: عالم الغيب‎, Alam-al-Ghaib) and the word Angel الملائكة mentioned 88 times in Quran in 86 verses (some examples are: 2:30 2:210 3:80). So it is a part of our faith to believe in the existence of the angels, even though we can not see them but they are around us. Qur’an indirectly mentions
that the angles travel in space with the speed of light. The following verse of the Holy Quran gives us the exact calculation of the speed at which they travel, which is equal to the modern calculation of the speed of light: Quran 32:05 “(Allah) Rules the cosmic affair from the heavens to the Earth. Then this affair travels to Him a distance in one day, at a measure of one thousand years of what you count.”
It is the angels who carry out the affairs of Allah, people back then measured the distances neither in kilometres nor in miles but rather by how much time they needed to walk. For example, a village two days away meant a distance equivalent to walking for two days; ten days away meant a distance equivalent to walking for ten days…
However, in this verse, the Quran specifies 1000 years of what they counted (not what they walked). Those people back then followed the lunar calendar and counted 12 lunar months each year. These months are related to the moon and not related to the sun. Hence in 1 day, the angels will travel a distance of 1000 years of what they counted (12 Lunar months every year). Since this verse is referring to distance, then God is saying that angels travel in one day the same distance that the moon travels in 12000 lunar orbits (12 lunar months x 1000 years = 12000 lunars orbits). We discovered that in an inertial geocentric frame 12000 Lunar Orbits/Earth Day is equivalent to the Speed of Light.

SubhanAllah, how precise is Allah’s calculation, confirming that Qur’an IS a word from Allah almighty.

Who is Allah

Allah SWT is one who existed when there was nothing and He will remain last when everything will be ended. It is Allah who is the Creator of everything, who created this complex universe and He is the sole owner of everything in it. The Creator things that we see and things that we don’t. It’s Allah who created everything with perfection only in 6 Days. Whatever is created in the heavens and the earth is engaged in exalting and praising Him every moment.
All the praise is to Allah, other than Hm there is no deity, and He is above everything that the unbelievers associate with Him. He is the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith & Peace. Exalted is Allah from everything that we see. He is superior in Might, He is ever-living, self-subsisting, the most-high, and Greatest of all what we know and what we can imagine and to Him belongs the best names.
All the praise is to Allah, who is the most gracious and entirely merciful to his creation. It’s Allah alone who is worthy of our worship having, no partner or associates. He is the one and the unique, nobody or nothing can and will be compared to Him. He is the only one, everything and everyone is dependent on Him alone and there is no one to whom he must consult.
All the praise is to Allah, who is the King of all who claim sovereignty and kingship. He alone is the owner of the great Throne encompassing and extended to the 7 heavens, and He is the only one who has the right to legislate for his creation. He is the giver of life, He is the causer of death, while death does not affect Him because he is the eternal and the only absolute. He has the creator and has the power to recreate anything, He created every living thing with water.
All the praise is to Allah, who is forbearing and ever forgiving in all matters of his creation. He is all-knowing, also no one has the power to change his will in any matter whatsoever. He is Allah who sent all his Messengers AS with a common message of strict Monotheism, which legislates and literally means that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah without any partner.
All the praise is to Allah, who is the author of everything, neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor does He sleep. Every slight change in the universe is dependent on his command. Nothing can cause benefit or detriment to anyone except He permits it. No one can ever provide sustenance, honour or disgrace except Him, because he is the sole provider of everything. Everything belongs to him, whether it is in the heavens or on the earth, He is the most honoured and the most respectful of all.
All the praise is to Allah, who is Pure and the only provider of purity. He is the sole provider of safety and security from everything that can cause harm or damage to anyone, and in reality, no one has the power to cause detriment to anyone, except He wills. He is the sole preserver of everything that is in the heavens and the earth, and this preservation does not tire Him. He is our owner, guardian, nurturer, and best friend. He helps us, sustains us when we are in the hour of need, and gives us better thing in place of what He takes back because He has the knowledge of everything and alone He knows what is best for us. He is the fashioner, the inventor, the designer of anything and everything, seen and the unseen, open and hidden from us.
All the praise is to Allah, who is ever forgiving, He always accepts the repentance of His creation and answers whenever and by whoever called. HE is the absolute problem solver in every situation, and there is no one except him because He is all-knowing. He knows everything, whether we show it or conceal it. Whatever knowledge we have is given by Allah and nobody can have any knowledge of anything except for what he permits.
All the praise is to Allah, who is the Light of everything, the Guider of the straight path and the Bestower of Faith. He is the one who set seals on the hearts of those who disbelieve. When there nobody to help, He is the only one who helps us. He alone is the Sovereign of the day of resurrection, the heavens and the hell. He neither begets nor is born, He is different from everything that we can imagine.

Key to Sucess

This Dua “إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ” in Quran 2:156, is often prayed when we hear news of someone’s death. However, if we read this whole verse from the beginning, we will find out that this Dua has many more benefits, and it can become a reason for the increase in blessing from Allah SWT.
Allah says in Qur’an 2:156-157: “who, when faced with a disaster (calamity), says, “Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will all return.” They are the ones who will receive Allah’s Blessings and Mercy. And it is they who are Rightly Guided.”
SubhanAllah! means that a person who recites this in any sort of

calamity, Allah shows him a way out of it by truly guiding him, apart from that He SWT shower his blessings and mercy upon that person. But the question is, why does Allah like such a person? the answer is in the dua itself. “Surely to Allah we belong and to Him we will return” by saying this, we put all of our trust in Allah and hand over all our matter to Him. As truly Allah knows everything, He has the knowledge of the seen and the unseen, so He knows what is good and what is bad for us. If He took back something that He gifted us, first of all, that thing belongs to Allah, He is the owner of it, and He gave it to us for a limited time, so he can take it back whenever He likes. Secondly, He will surely gift us something better than what He took away. Thirdly, that thing might not be better for us, so he did this to save us.
We human beings have a very limited span of thinking, we always try to jump to the conclusion of everything. On the other hand, our Creator thinks the way we can not imagine, and He knows everything. This is why we should always trust in Allah and accept all His decisions without arguing. And when we do this, Allah showers His Blessings and Mercy upon us and Guides us on the right path.

Honey Bees in Qur'an

Out of hundreds of miracles mentioned and hidden in the Qur’an, Allah mentioned female Honey Bees as worker bees, those who gather pollen and make the honey. Scientists have now confirmed that all the worker bees are actually females. Male bees do not make honey. This fact was recently discovered. But, 1400 years ago the Quran refers to bees that generate the honey as females (the Arabic grammar is in the female mode):
Allah said in Qur’an 16:68-69 “And your Lord (Allah) revealed to the bees: Build your hives in mountains, trees and in what they build. Then eat (for females) from every fruit and follow (for females) your Lord’s enslaved paths, from its bellies (بُطُونِهَا) exits drink of
different colours, in it healing for man. These are signs for those who contemplate.”
Explanation:
For the word “eat”: “Kuli” is for females; “Kul” is for males. The Quran used “Kuli” (females).
For the word “follow a path”: “Usluki” is for females; “Usluk” is for males. The Quran used “Usluki” (females).
For the word “its bellies”: “butuniha” is for females; “butunihim” is for males. The Quran used “butuniha” (females).
For the word “its bellies”: “butuniha بُطُونِهَا” is for a single female. “butunihin” is for multiple females. The Quran used “butuniha بُطُونِهَا” single female.
Butuniha بُطُونِهَا in Arabic means multiple stomachs of a single female. Today we know that a honey bee has an extra stomach dedicated to honey.
SubhanAllah! How precisely Allah mentioned this fact in Qur’an 1400 years ago to Muhammad SAW who did not have the knowledge of such detail before Allah revealed this in the Qur’an, also at that time the technology was not advanced that this fact could be discovered.

Vortex Movement

NASA solar system exploration missions have found out through satellite observatories that “the sun orbits around the Milkyway galaxy, bringing the planets, asteroids, comets and other objects along with it, see the video supporting this fact here.
This was recently discovered by science using the latest and advanced technology, however, this fact was mentioned in the Qur’an 1400 years ago.
Allah said in Qur’an 39:5 “And He has subjected the sun and the
moon, each orbiting for an appointed term. He is truly the Almighty, Most Forgiving.”
Explanation: Allah specifically said in this verse “the sun and the moon, each orbiting”. SubhanAllah! till now, it was thought that the sun is static and all the planets, moons, and asteroids are orbiting it through its gravitational pull. But now it has been observed using advanced technology, that everything, not only the planets but the sun, galaxies and other celestial bodies are orbiting for an appointed term toward a direction, directed by someone. Allah gave this knowledge to his beloved prophet Muhammad SAW 1400 years ago when mankind was not able to build such advanced technology as today.
According to my estimation, this is the most profound miracle of the Qur’an mentioned by Allah 1400 years ago. Truly Allah has shown many signs for the people of intellect, if any person ponders upon Qur’anic verses, there is no way his heart will reject these signs.

Sects in Islam

There are no sects in Islam, the sects that we see now all around the world are made because of the disputes that Muslims had among them. But our religion Islam neither teach us nor allow us to make or even follow any sect. Allah mentioned this instruction several times in Qur’an which means that Allah dislikes those who divide people into sects in the name of religion and those who follow them. Muhammad SAW said in Jami’at-Tirmidhi 2640 “my Ummah will split into seventy-three sects”, SubhanAllah! Allah
gave Muhammad SAW knowledge of the current situation 1400 years ago, and today we see that there are many sects in which Muslims are divided. But people take this hadith in the wrong way, if Muhammad SAW said that it will happen, it doesn’t mean that it should happen. We should try to stop this curse, and Muhammad SAW said this hadith sadly, He SAW was not happy about this. Because it is not a part of Islam and Allah strictly stops us from this in Qur’an 6:159 ” Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects – you, [O Muḥammad], are not [associated] with them in anything” this shows that Allah dislike sects in His religion and He said to His Messanger SAW that you have no relation with them, which means that those who do this will be accountable for what they did in the name of Islam in Akhirah.
Muhammad SAW taught us ONE religion of ONE Allah from ONE book of revelation Qur’an and instructed us to stick to the ONE path of Allah, as Allah said in Qur’an 3:103 “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided”. The rope of Allah in this ayah is ONE, which is the holy book of the Qur’an and the teaching of Muhammad SAW. This is the religion of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Isa, Muhammad and all the other prophets. All of the prophets came with the same religion of Islam and called themselves Muslim, and we should do the same. Allah speaks about this in Qur’an 41:33 “And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, “Indeed, I am of the Muslims.”
Conclusion: We should always call people to the One path of Allah instead of dividing them into different sects, as Islam does not have any sect and Allah hate those who divide people. This is the act of righteousness.

Locusts in Qur'an

Allah mentioned Locusts in Qur’an comparing human beings when they will emerge from their graves on the day of resurrection.
Allah said in Qur’an 54:07-08 “Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, rushing towards the caller. The disbelievers will say, “This is a difficult Day.”
In this verse, Allah compared locusts with the people, when they will be resurrected on the day of judgment. If we go into the depth of this statement and study the lifecycle and behaviour of locusts, we will find this comparison is incredibly correct. Below are the details that explain further why locusts are mentioned in the Qur’an
and how their comparison mentioned by Allah with the people on the day of judgment is amazingly correct:
Explanation:
1. A female locust lays eggs in the ground in the form of pods, 1-3 pods each female locust, and each pod contain 60-80 eggs. When these eggs hatch, nonflying nymph emerge from the ground at the same time, this action is similar to the Day of Resurrection when several people will emerge from one single grave.
2. Another behaviour of locusts is similar to the people on the Day of Ressurection is that, when a swarm of locusts travel they travel in a similar way that Allah mentioned people will walk towards its caller on the day of Qyamah.
Subhan Allah!
How precisely and incredibly Allah compared these two things in glorious Qur’an, without any doubt Allah has mentioned many signs in Qur’an for those who believe. And I found this miracle incredibly correct and precise.

Miracles of Kaaba

From any point in the world, the direction facing the Kaaba is called Qibla. The Kaaba (meaning cube in Arabic) is the place where every Muslim is instructed by Allah to face while performing salah. Many people do not understand why we are facing this cube for worship, most of them argue that this act is the same as the non-Muslims do when they bow before idols for worshipping them. But there is a big and clear difference between facing Qibla for worshipping Allah SWT (as Muslims do) and bowing before idols for worshipping them (as Hindus and other non-Muslims do). Below are some important points to defend this fact:
    1. In the beginning of Islamic history, many companions of
Prophet Muhammad SAW used to call people for prayers (giving Adhan) by climbing on the Kaaba. Now any idol worshiper will never climb on his idol god, as this will be disrespectful for his god.
    2. In Qur’an 2:115 Allah mentioned “And to Allah belongs the east and the west. So wherever you [might] turn, there is the Face1 of Allah.” This clearly explains that Kaaba is just the direction for worshipping Allah, if anyone is not able to find the exact location of Kaaba for salah, he or she can face any direction, as every place belongs to Allah SWT.
    3. Umar bin Al-Khattab addressed the Black Stock of Kaaba saying: ‘By Allah! I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Prophet (ﷺ) touching (and kissing) you, I would never have touched (and kissed) you.’ This Hadith is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari 1605, Vol. 2, Book 26, Hadith 675 which clearly shows that we do not worship Kaaba, everything we do is because of Sunnah of Muhammad SAW.

Miraculous Kaaba:
Keeping all of the above-mentioned points in mind, the Holy Kaaba is a miraculous place and facing its direction for worshipping Allah contain many scientific and rational facts.
If we look to the creation of Allah SWT, from the tiny world of Quantum (atoms, molecules, tiny particles etc) to the Huge Celestial Bodies that float in the space above us (planets, stars, galaxies etc) they are all rotating and circumambulating around a certain axis in the same counter-clockwise direction. This is the same way Muslims are circumambulating around the Holy Kaaba which is an act of worship for Muslims. It means that in nature, every creation is worshipping Allah SWT and this fact is also mentioned in Quran 22:18 “Do you not see [i.e., know] that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people?”
Besides the logical fact, there is are scientific reasoning about Kaaba. Allah has created everything with a precise calculation of the ‘Golden Ratio’ also known as the ‘Divine Proportion’ (denoted as Phi Φ). To understand and learn this fact, see this video by clicking here. If we apply this ratio on earth, we will find out that the golden point of earth/globe is the city of Mecca (distance from Mecca to the South Pole = 12,348.32 Km, distance from Mecca to the North Pole = 7,631.68, by dividing these values: 12,348.32/7,631.68=1.618 that is the Golden ratio), whereas the golden point of Mecca is the Holy Kaaba. Because it is the golden point of the globe, it has the strongest energetic field on the earth, same the galaxies, and plants which emits the energy from the centre point to the outer edges. Like a nucleus of an atom that balances the energy system with the electrons that revolve around it.
Dr Andrew Newberg examined the brain during Islamic prayer (salah) and found out that this practice decreased blood flow to areas of the brain controlling willful behaviour and movement, as well as the sense of self. He further said: “Our study showed that Islamic prayer practices have powerful effects on the brain,” study this report by clicking here. When we put our forehead (that contains the frontal lobe of the Brain) on the ground during prostration the brain emits negative electromagnetic charges (same as the electrons, planets and stars emit) that are harmful to us and can cause headache, depression, mental illness and other serious problems. Prayer is the perfect form of meditation that modern science now accepts.

Miracles of Qur'an

The Quran is widely recognized as a miraculous book, for the unique style and presentation of the Arabic language. Muslims worldwide know that each word contained in Quran can only have come from Allah. Unlike other religious texts, Allah famously issues a challenge to all of the mankind in Qur’an 2:23 “And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down [i.e., the Qur’ān] upon Our Servant [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)], then produce a sūrah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses [i.e., supporters] other than Allah, if you should be truthful.” and amazingly nobody has been able to meet the challenge, however many have tried since it was revealed. And unlike all other religious scriptures, the Quran is word to word the same to this date as it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad SAW more than 1400 years ago. This was also promised by Allah in Qur’an 15:9, “Indeed, it is We who sent down the message [i.e., the Qur’ān], and indeed, We will be its guardian.”

Basic Information:
It took 22 years and 5 months for Quran to be revealed completely, 13 years in Mecca and almost 10 years in Medina. Prophet Muhammad SAW and his Companions used to memorize the Quran and write on leather, the bark of trees and stones and

Prophet Muhammad SAW indicated the arrangement of the Quran in verses and chapters through Divine guidance and there are hundreds of miracles in its arrangement only and this thing guarantees that everything was guided by Allah. Quran was compiled in one volume during the time of first Khalifa Abu-Bakr RA, and during the time of third Khalifa ‘Uthman RA, the very first version of the Holy Quran in form of standard text was issued.
Quran is divided into 7 Manzil that are subdivided into 30 parts/siparay, with 114 chapters (surah’s) 86 makki and 28 madni, 540 rukus, approximately 6666 ayahs made of approximately 323760 words in total to be exact.

Miracles of Quran:
The Holy Qur’an is a Divine Speech of Allah SWT, and now we have many proofs to defend this reality. There are 10s of 100s of miracles in a single surah, even the arrangement of surahs and verses show that such perfect speech cannot come from a normal human being. Quran is the only book out of all the books ever revealed/written/published (religious or non-religious) to date, that has been memorized word by word, cover to cover by thousands of people all around the world. It is also the only book that is recited every day every time all over the world by millions of Muslims. There are hundreds of miracles of the Quran that existed from the day it was revealed, and an ordinary human being is not capable of providing such information that is mentioned in Quran.
Below are some links to the proofs that confirm the Quran is a word of Allah SWT:
